The Foundation for Knowledge-Based Development (Fundația pentru Dezvoltare Bazată pe Cunoaștere) is a non-governmental, non-profit institution whose mission and fields of activity span a wide range of domains: Communication, Industry/Energy, the New Economy, Management and Marketing, Circular Economy, Business, Research and Development, Digitalization, strategies, development scenarios, including activities for vocational training, education, and professional development at both intermediate and higher levels.
- FKBD’s mission extends beyond conventional organizational frameworks by embracing a multidisciplinary and integrative approach to development. Within the domain of communication, the Foundation initiates and supports projects that foster transparent, participatory, and responsible public discourse, both in institutional and civil society settings.
- In the fields of industry and energy, FKBD collaborates with experts and strategic stakeholders to generate innovative models for sustainable industrialization, low-carbon transition, and responsible resource management. Through its commitment to the new economy, the Foundation promotes emerging sectors such as green technology, social entrepreneurship, digital transformation, and creative industries, empowering a new generation of entrepreneurs, researchers, and changemakers.
- In management and marketing, FKBD organizes training programs, publishes strategic analyses, and hosts dialogue platforms for public and private actors aiming to modernize organizational structures and increase systemic competitiveness.
- The circular economy represents another key pillar, with FKBD leading efforts to educate communities, business networks, and institutions on resource efficiency, waste minimization, and sustainable product lifecycles. Business development is approached holistically, supporting startups, SMEs, and cooperative models with knowledge tools, mentoring, and access to strategic networks.
- Research and development activities cover both fundamental and applied research, with FKBD facilitating interdisciplinary consortia, open innovation hubs, and digital knowledge repositories. Digitalization is not seen as an isolated trend but as a structural transformation impacting all sectors of life and production, and the Foundation plays an active role in aligning digital tools with human-centered values and inclusive growth.
- All these domains converge through strategic foresight and scenario planning initiatives, enabling FKBD to shape and inform long-term public policies and development frameworks. The Foundation also places significant emphasis on lifelong learning and human capital development, designing and delivering vocational, technical, and higher education programs aligned with market needs, innovation systems, and global standards.
The Foundation for Knowledge-Based Development (FKBD is an institution for technical-economic and social progress, with a humanistic, scientific, educational, economic, and industrial profile. It is autonomous, without political or patrimonial aims, and includes within its structure its own entities for research and innovation, interdisciplinary development at national, European, and global levels, education, science, culture, economy, and production, as well as other units that contribute to fulfilling the purpose and objectives established by its Statute.
- FKBD’s institutional architecture is rooted in a philosophy of autonomy, integrity, and social responsibility. As an independent body, the Foundation exercises its mission free from political pressures or private financial interests, ensuring that all initiatives align with public interest, sustainability, and ethical standards.
- The Foundation is both a platform for action and a space for thought: a meeting point for scholars, practitioners, community leaders, and policy-makers. Its multidisciplinary character is reflected in its structural organization, where specialized departments and thematic units cooperate across sectors and disciplines.
- Within the research and innovation wing, FKBD establishes partnerships with universities, laboratories, and knowledge centers to design and test solutions that respond to pressing societal and environmental challenges. These include climate change adaptation, digital infrastructure, regional development, and education reform.
- The Foundation supports cross-border collaborations through European and international programs, contributing to a culture of innovation and shared learning. Its educational and scientific branches develop curricula, teaching resources, and evaluation tools tailored to both formal education and lifelong learning ecosystems.
- Cultural activities are also integrated, affirming the role of heritage, arts, and collective memory in shaping resilient and inclusive societies. From economic analysis to industrial design, from social policy to production chains, FKBD’s operational model bridges theory and practice.
- The Foundation also establishes and hosts observatories, think tanks, and training centers that support evidence-based policy-making, participatory governance, and impact-oriented project design. These units work together to implement the objectives laid out in FKBD’s Statute, which frames the Foundation as an evolving institution dedicated to the general good, sustainable progress, and democratic knowledge dissemination.
The Foundation for Knowledge-Based Development aims to capitalize on and advance national, European, and global technical-scientific, industrial, commercial, business, educational, productive, economic, and social knowledge. It promotes sustainable values at the European and global levels and implements heritage-based and long-lasting knowledge values at the national and international levels, under conditions of efficiency and sustainable development.
- FKBD’s strategy is grounded in the conviction that knowledge is the most valuable and renewable form of capital in contemporary society. Therefore, the Foundation commits to mapping, harnessing, and developing knowledge systems that contribute to balanced and equitable progress. At the national level, FDBC works with public authorities, academic institutions, and community-based organizations to strengthen innovation ecosystems, support knowledge transfer, and promote local development through smart specialization.
- In the European space, the Foundation is a committed participant in policy dialogues, framework programs, and academic networks, contributing to the European Research Area and the European Education Area. Internationally, FKBD supports North-South and East-West cooperation by facilitating knowledge mobility, joint ventures, and transnational education.
- The Foundation recognizes that the valorization of knowledge must be culturally grounded and historically conscious. It therefore promotes the integration of heritage values—civic memory, institutional continuity, and intergenerational wisdom—into future-oriented policies and innovations. Sustainability is not treated as a rhetorical objective but as a measurable framework for long-term planning and daily practices. In this regard, FKBD supports the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), both as a strategic guide and as an operational tool for project design and assessment.
- Heritage-based innovation is another cornerstone: the Foundation explores how traditional crafts, local knowledge, and historic institutions can contribute to digital transformation, green growth, and inclusive governance.
- Efficiency is pursued not as cost-minimization, but as intelligent resource allocation, cooperation, and process optimization, guided by ethical considerations and stakeholder engagement. Through publications, seminars, participatory labs, and digital platforms, FKBD amplifies the voices of citizens and experts alike in co-producing actionable knowledge for society. Ultimately, the Foundation advocates for a world where development is based not on exploitation or exclusion, but on the transformative power of shared knowledge, civic responsibility, and sustainable ambition.
